Tata Motors now realising the need of larger presence in small car market. After successful launch of Nano , now Tata developing another small car. The engine of this car will be bigger than Nano, that means in place of 663cc engine Tata will plant a 800cc engine. Naturally the new small car will be placed between Nano and Indica. “The car is expected to be powered by an 800cc or 1,000cc engine, and will be strategically placed in the A2 segment like Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR and Hyundai i10 ” reports BSMotoring quoting some source. But the source did not confirm the fuel options Tata Motors considering. So we may see diesel or petrol variants of this 800cc car. Tata Indica is available in two engine variants, a 1.3ltr Diesel engine and 1.1ltr Petrol engine so there are bright chances to position this new 80cc kid between these engines and Nano’s 663cc engine. A2 segment rules 70percent of Indian car market and Maruti Suzuki with six models continuing the supremacy there for a long time now. So those who want to capture bigger share in this (A2) segment has to offer more products. This is the reason behind Tata’s plans to develop new 800cc car. Interestingly India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer now entering a territory that India’s largest passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki Ltd left recently. If the plan materialises Tata can easily fill the gap between Tata Indica and Nano. So another interesting development in our passenger car segment, so stay tuned for our regular updates.
