Piaggio rubbishes reports of a Rs. 50K fiber bodied Vespa LX125

There were few media reports that surfaced of late suggesting that the Vespa LX125 scooter could undergo a major cost cutting operation. It was said that the Vespa LX125 retro scooter would ditch its steel body in favor of a low cost fiber shell in order to reduce the cost. The speculated price of this variant was reported to be Rs. 50,000. However, Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited has got in touch with Indian Motos Blog and issued an official statement, claiming that the report is untrue. The company said, “Piaggio set out to create the luxury segment with the launch of the Vespa LX 125 in India in April 2012. The information on Vespa unveiling a fibre body variant and reducing price to Rs 50,000/- is untrue. We are happy to respond to any queries that may arise regarding the same.” The stylish retro scooter is priced a little above Rs. 60,000 which makes it the most expensive scooter in its class. However, the company relies on the brand image, retro style and fashion statement to market it as a life style product. The company has recently under taken a production cost cut at their facility and passed on the benefit to customers by slashing the price of the scooter.
