Maruti Launches New Suzuki Swift DZire 2012 in India

by Paul Joseph February 3, 2012 Featured

Maruti announces the second-generation Swift Dzire at a starting price of Rs 4.79lakh in petrol and diesel variants. This will be the new sub-four-meter Dzire which will be offered as four-speed automatic petrol variant. The base (Lxi) model will be priced at Rs 4.79lakh while the top end Zxi model will be priced at Rs 6.19 lakh. In the diesel variants, the base variant is for Rs 5.80 lakh and the top-end for Rs 7.09 lakh. The new Dzire measures 3995 mm and it is 165mm shorter than the existing saloon. This gives it a shorter boot and notchback- like look. Though small, the boot can hold the weekend`s luggage. The engines will be powered by the 86bhp, 1.2 L petrol and 1.3 L diesel motors. The K series will benefit from the variable valve Timing. The new Dzire also looks different in that the front gets a slatted grille and the bumper features a wider air dam and larger enclosures for the fog lights. The cabin design looks much like the Swift but the beige plastics and lower portion of the dashboard and door pads with the light seat fabrics give the ambience a better look. For buyers looking at performance, the Maruti claims that the petrol variant can hit 0-100 kph in 12.3 sec, while the diesel variant will take 14.8 sec for top speed of 160kph. It will compete with Tata Indigo eCS, Toyota Etios and the Mahindra Verito. By: Amrith K. A.

Spied – Chevrolet Sail hatchback completes testing formalities in Pune

by Paul Joseph January 26, 2012 Featured

Pune reader Anish Bengiri spotted a taped up Chevrolet Sail hatchback near his residence. The Sail hatch was displayed at the Auto Expo in Delhi a few weeks back and by the festive season (October-November) it will be launched in the market. See high res interiors shots of the Sail The Sail twins will replace the age old Aveos and the very important difference is the incoming models use Fiat’s 1.3-liter Multi-jet diesel engine manufactured at GM’s Talegaon plant. These two models will be spaced out between the Beat and the Optra. Its main rivals incidentally turn out to be among the best selling cars in the Indian market – the Swift and the Swift Dzire. The Sails were designed and developed by SAIC, GM’s Chinese partner which owns a significant stake in its Indian operations with the goal of providing affordable motoring. The philosophy of the Sail is very similar to the Tata Nano – it aims to broaden the customer range for car ownership. The twins were designed right from the start to meet a certain level of international standards. They were launched in China two years ago and and are being exported. Some of the features on the Chinese-spec models are dual airbags, ABS, EBD and good pedestrian safety ratings.

Chevrolet’s MPV (a.k.a Hong Guang) continues to test

by Paul Joseph January 18, 2012 Featured

At the 2012 Auto Expo, Chevrolet finally revealed its future lineup for India. The two new products will be launched in 2012. First up is the Sail twins replacing the aging Aveos. Second is an MPV from the SAIC partnership which is yet to be named. This MPV is called Hong Guang in China and has been consistently spotted testing on the Indian roads. Our good friends at Team-BHP have managed to snap a couple of more images of the Chevrolet MPV near Ahmedabad. The Hong Guang is 7 seater MPV  with 2nd and 3rd row have flat-folding seats. It is expected to be powered by 1.3L SMARTECH XSDE engine. Internationally, the Hong Guang is available with a bucket load of features. So GM can pitch it up against the new Toyota Innova and play the price game. However, the Hong Guang will not have the market to its own. Nissan India has already showcased its contender – the Evalia for Indian market. Ashok Leyland also plans to enter this segment with a slightly better looking NV200, called as the Stile. Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga launch is also just around the corner. [Source: Team-BHP.com ]
