Brazilian Ford Figo gets a “Storm” edition

by Paul Joseph January 27, 2012 Featured

The marketeers at Ford Brazil have scratched their heads, realized that sporty and Fiesta go hand in hand and presented a nicely kitted-up edition of the Ford Fiesta in Brazil. Yes, the Figo is sold as the Fiesta in Brazil and it looks a little odd for Indian taste. The Fiesta Storm edition includes a rear spoiler, rear and side protectors, tinted windows, roof-mounted luggage carrier and body decals. This is an aesthetic makeover and there are no changes present under the bonnet. The Fiesta Storm can be bought with 1L or a 1.6L petrol engine. [Source - AutosSegredos.com.br ]

Ford Figo launched in Nigeria; Offered with 1.4-liter petrol

by Paul Joseph September 26, 2011 Featured

Ford’s Nigerian representative Coscharis recently introduced the Figo in their market. Following the launch, a few press and media personnel were given a chance to experience the Figo’s ride quality. After captivating the Indian market since its release and bagging plenty of awards, the Figo began its overseas journeys. Ford said it will export the Figo to about 50 markets and started with South Africa where it was well received. Soon after Figo went to our neighboring countries, to the Middle East and now finds homes in Africa. But how different has Ford made the Figo to suit the Nigerian market? While the Indian version runs on a 1.2L Engine, the Nigerian version is fitted with a 1.4L Duratec Engine (petrol). The Indian market has 4 variants under the Figo tag, the LXI, the EXI, the ZXI and the Titanium, while the Nigerian market has only two variants, the Trend and the Ambiente. The Trend seems to be the sportier version that includes ABS as a standard installation with the Ambiente is the slightly lower end model. Ford Figo is surely going places!! In conversation with Nigel Wark, Executive Director of Marketing, Ford India

by Paul Joseph July 17, 2011 Featured

Wasn’t a particularly good day to launch a hotly anticipated sedan in the market with a series of 3 blasts rocking the city the night before and then the morning filled with torrential downpour, but a work at hand is a work at hand. Ford India decided that the show must go on! A very low key launch of a very important product of 2011 took place in the Mumbai on 14 th of July – the global Fiesta was finally launched in India. We got you minute by minute updates from the launch as promised. The Kinetic design in its full glory Since then, market reactions have been mixed. Some say it is a very expensive product for their wallet, others believe that you get a lot more kit as standard so it is fine to pay a bit extra. On the occasion, we caught up with the Nigel Wark, Executive Director of Marketing, Ford India and had a nice little chat. Nigel Wark at the Mumbai Launch Any plans to drop in 1.6L engine in Figo? We have a number of people actively encouraging us to do the same but we are focusing on a lot of things at once and there are a number of things on a higher priority than a hot hatch. But we have our ears open and we hear the interest levels from people and we will respond to the consumer’s demand. Flowing lines to give a sense of motion Any plans to revisit the Mondeo segment? We stepped out of that segment because there was a major change in the product in Europe which did not allow us to run the later versions of the Mondeo on the Indian average fuel quality. Now, we are not sure what the Indian Government is doing with respect to CBU and other tariff changes for European imports. All these factors are needed to be taken into consideration before we enter into the premium segment. First of its kind 1.5L Duratorq TDCI Engine How is move of down segmenting the Fiesta to Fiesta Classic worked out for you? It has worked out very positively indeed. It such a capable product and it has gotten better over the years. The customer satisfaction levels with the Fiesta Classic are very high and I am so happy with the product I feel like bumping up the price (Jokingly) Perfect Interior for a driver oriented car Are there any plans for a Sub Figo hatchback? Currently we are constrained with the fulfilling the demand of the Indian market. As soon as we fulfill our commitments, we will search for more segments to enter. One of the best intrument cluster in the market Any plans to refresh the Endeavour? Endeavour is a product that has done a lot for the brand. We launched a number of variants such as automatic, 4X4, 4×2. It has worked wonders for us and we are happy with the current sales figures. At the end of the day it all comes down to where we should use our resources. A butterfly shaped center console How has the shift of consumer behavior from Petrol to Diesel affected Ford India? Earlier we used to sell in 50:50 ratio now the ratio is 70:30. But these are cyclical changes and the market swings back and forth. Here, right now, diesel is dominating the market but we also expect that the petrol prices to moderate in the future and the demand for petrol cars to increase. Steering wheel with Media, Voice and Cruise Control So there you have it folks.  We’ll keep you posted more on the Fiesta shortly. Stay tuned.

Ford takes the Figo on a pan-India Yatra

by Paul Joseph June 30, 2011 Featured

After the success of the Smart Drive program, Ford is doing more to bring the Figo in contact with prospective customers by taking the Figo to where they live. They are organizing the ‘Bharat Yatra’ pan-India drive covering 1,000 cities to give prospective buyers a first hand look at the car. Figo sales aren’t at year 1 levels anymore as cars like the new Swift, Etios Liva and Honda Brio are corrupting minds of the Figo buyer. He would like to wait to see these models before making up his mind. To celebrate the sale of 100,000 Figo cars, Ford has started a pan-India ‘Bharat Yatra’. The Bharat Yatra is a road show which will travel to 1,000 cities across India gives people a firsthand look at the popular hatch. The initiative from Ford will last for 100 days. Ford Figo soon on roads of Sri Lanka

by Paul Joseph June 13, 2011 Featured

After the Tata Nano , Ford Figo will be the next car India will export to Sri Lanka. Ford has appointed Future Automobiles, a subsidiary of Softlogic Holdings as its exclusive dealer in Sri Lanka. Ford says the demand for cars, similar to other South East Asian countries, will rise in Sri Lanka. It sells the Ranger, Everest (Endeavour), Focus and Fiesta exported from Thailand and Europe. Back in 2007 Ford had pulled out of the country due to poor demand for its products. In its second innings, it hopes the improving Sri Lankan economy will have a good appetite for Ford cars. Sales is predicted to catch up next year and it hopes to capture 15% market share in the next few years in all segments it is present in. Last year Ford said it will export the Figo to 48 countries including African countries and the Caribbean islands. Source – Lankanewspapers.com

Epic – Ford rolls out 100,000th Figo

by Paul Joseph April 27, 2011 Featured

It feels like only last week I was interacting with the Ford India management at the 50,000th Figo celebration , and already the 100,000th celebration has concluded at the Chennai factory. Time flies. And so have Figos from dealerships outlets in India. The Figo has changed the way India sees Ford forever. Before the launch of the Figo, Ford’ high point was with the Fiesta (Fiesta Classic now) which people loved for its driving dynamics. The old Ikon and Endeavour were not doing serious numbers. The Fusion, despite being a unique product and practical in many ways, bombed in our market. Some blamed it on the pricing. Some said it wasn’t marketed properly. The Mondeo, it has to be said, came way before its time to India and met with a premature end. Having suffered a few blows along the way, Ford was giving us the feeling that it was a sidelines manufacturer, content with just having a presence in India. The Figo’ arrival changed things almost overnight. Since its launch last year Ford has sold close to 80,000 Figos, a figure all its cars put together would take years otherwise to reach. Exports have commenced, and soon the Figo will be shipped to forty eight markets as far as the Caribbean islands. Every factory worker at the Maraimalainagar plant is excited. Listen in to one of the reactions – We will one day reach a situation where we will reach 10 million cars The state of mind Ford is in now is positive one which is compulsory when you’re launching products in segments where you haven’t been all that successful. If the new Fiesta and Focus perform similar to the Figo, Ford would have then built a reputation of being able to sell well in any segment. That’s a title a privileged few enjoy in India. The Figo’s titanic success is a great launch pad, one would agree. Press Release CHENNAI, India – Allusions to India’s recent conquest in the Cricket World Cup 2011, recollection of a great year marked by the Figo’s continued successes, and happy moments shared with great camaraderie on reaching yet another great milestone – the 100,000th Figo’s rollout at the Chennai plant witnessed it all. Ford’s hot-selling compact – which has revived the fortunes of the Blue Oval and put it firmly among the top four auto manufacturers in country – celebrated the rolling out of its 100,000th unit at the Maraimalainagar plant recently. Body and Paint shops and Trim, Chassis and Final (TCF) teams celebrated the event during two days that saw senior managers praise the great work of plant employees. At the Body Shop, employees joined Boneham to cut a ceremonial ribbon and mark the historic occasion. Boneham congratulated employees both on India’s historic World Cup cricket win as well as rolling out the 100,000th Figo in such a short span of time. “We are proud of the great work you are doing and we hope you will carry on this enthusiasm to our other new products as well,” he said. Chackalackal urged the employees to continue their excellent safety record of 50 days without any First Time Occupational Visit (FTOV) incidents. At the Paint Shop, colourful balloons marked the rollout of the historic Colorado Red Figo. Paint Shop General Manager Anand Misra congratulated employees on having reached the milestone, just 12 months of after the first Figo rolled off the line. He commended the reduced use of paint – from 134 to 47 litres per car, as well as lower power consumption rates. “These efforts show the boost in productivity as well as a commitment to greener manufacturing,” he said. Sathyan, General Manager of Material Planning & Logistics (MP& L) compared the rolling out of the 100,000th car to scoring the last winning run of the World Cup. “We will one day reach a situation where we will reach 10 million cars,” he said. Balasundaram Radhakrishnan, vice president of Powertrain Operations, observed that while producing 100,000 cars is smart, to achieve this production with the lowest number of Things Gone Wrong (TGW) in the region is smarter – and that for the Figo to win the highest number of awards among any car ever in India was the smartest thing achieved thus far by Ford India employees. The phenomenal Ford Figo, which celebrated the first anniversary of an extraordinary year in March, will be exported to Mexico and more than 50 other international markets this year. It has already been toasted as ‘The Most Awarded Indian Car of the Year Ever’.

Figo goes to Mexico, Middle East, North Africa

by Paul Joseph March 11, 2011 Featured

As Ford Figo celebrated its 1 year birthday earlier this week, some more ‘good news’ was revealed to the masses. After selling 75K in just one year and winning many precious COTY awards, the Figo will now be exported to Mexico, Middle East and North Africa. The exports will start next week wherein a batch of 1,500 cars will be sent to Mexico from the Ford India’s Chennai Plant. Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham said: India will be the small car hub for Ford. India will be the sole producer of Figo in the world and there is no plan to assemble the car anywhere else Currently the Figo is exported to South Africa and Nepal.
