New details emerge on Skoda Youngster

by Paul Joseph June 3, 2011 Featured

Like Volkswagen, Skoda will bring out a city hatchback that will slot in below Fabia next year. Part of the VW-Skoda-Seat New Small Family, the mini Skoda will be a cosmetically different Up sporting interiors familiar to the other Skoda cars. The design director of this vehicle Jozef Kaban has told CAR Magazine that the three vehicles (expected to be VW Lupo/Skoda Youngster/Seat Arosa) will have visibly more differentiation than the Peugeot 107/Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo trio. Body work will be different with independent bumpers, plastic moldings and subtle metalwork changes. Design inspiration will come from the VisionD concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The report mentions that the “C” graphic on the tail light will continue to be a design feature of this urban runabout. Though the Up! concept had the rear engine RWD layout (think Tata Nano), it has been scrapped in favor of the conventional front engine FWD package present on all compact cars in India. CAR has detailed engine options too. It is understood that 1.0- and 1.2-liter petrol engines will join hands with three- and four-cylinder diesel engines. The three-cylinder diesel engine CAR is talking about could be the 1.2 TDI used on the Polo and Fabia. The Indian Fabia also uses a 1.2-liter petrol engine.

Audi A3 could be ready by as early as 2013

by Paul Joseph March 11, 2011 Featured

For those who want a good looking, premium car for 20 lakh rupees, Audi will offer help in the form of the A3 sedan in the coming years. The design elements on the A3 will keep it in line with modern Audis, so second glances will be won without batting an eye lid. But the only problem is that Audi’s still undecided about the prospects of the A3 in India. The model will be sold in China and USA, but markets are still undecided for the A3, the company revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. Media reports cite 2013 as its release date, but the Indian debut could be more than one year away from that point. The objective of the A3 sedan was to recreate the brilliance of the first generation A4 dating back to 1994. The concept model exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show had a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine from the RS3 Sportback that produces 408 PS and sent it through the seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive mechanism to the wheels. The A3 sedan concept shown at Geneva hence is truly a high-performance sedan. Audi hasn’t downplayed the possibilities of turbocharged four cylinder engines burning diesel under the hood of the A3 sedan, what it exactly needs to sit under the A4 in the company’s portfolio.

Hang On – Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution not dead yet

by Paul Joseph March 8, 2011 Featured

Recently news flurried from the Geneva that Mitsubishi will axe the EVO franchise on environmental concerns. But now Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC) has sent an explanation email giving further details of their statement. Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC) – The current model would continue until it is phased out in 2012/2013. We have kept the Lancer Evolution sedan evolving as the brand’s highest-performing model in the global market. However, as the market’s needs and demands change, MMC is considering not advancing the Lancer Evolution concept in the same way as before, but to find a different direction for the Lancer Evolution model to evolve To explain in simple words, the EVO is not being axed but it will be neutered. It will continue to live on a hybrid or an EV. In 2005, Mitsubishi did showcase a Lancer Evolution MIEV which used a lithium-ion battery system to power four newly developed in-wheel motors. That concept produced 268 hp and 1,528 lb-ft of torque and could do 180 km/h with a range of 250 km. Source – InsideLine
