What to expect at Delhi Auto Expo – Hyundai

by Paul Joseph January 4, 2012 Featured

Just like the launches of 2011, the second largest car manufacturer of India plans to stuff its pavilion with some insane cars starting with the HND-7, a concept form of soon to come MPV from Hyundai motors. The HND-7 is just a design study right now but could possibly spawn a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga rival in the future. Giving company to the HND-7 (image above is not related) will be the Avante sedan which will draw the spectators’ attention owing to its sporty looks. Internationally, available in both petrol and diesel version along with manual and automatic, the Avante will sit above the Verna challenging the Cruze and Laura. Also at the expo will be the i45 sedan which will be Hyundai’s contender in the D+ sedan market. HMIL is expected to bring both petrol and diesel variants of the i45 model. The petrol variant will be equipped with a 2 litre VTVT whereas the other variant will have a 2 litre R-diesel engine. A surprise treat from Hyundai will be the Veloster. It is a compact sports car that uses a 4 cylinder direct-injected 1.6 liter with 138 hp. The most unique aspect of this car is that it has one door on the driver side and two on the passenger side. Stay tuned as we get you live images of the HND-7

Exclusive – Hyundai Fluidic Avante/Elantra on test [video]

by Paul Joseph November 17, 2011 Featured

IndianAutosBlog’s Shakti Budhiraja filmed the Fluidic Avante/Elantra testing on Delhi roads last week. The Avante is not playing the volumes game but its a powerful point prover for Hyundai who has struggled to sell expensive vehicles in the past. Hyundai’s previous stint with the Elantra proved to be a mis-hit but two generations later, the Koreans have an opportunity to begin on a fresh page. The C and D segments have done a world of good to shift the baseline of automotive companies in India. Skoda’s premium brand image is credited to its success in managing to sell Superb and Laura that are value buys. Before the arrival of Cruze, General Motors was not competitive in higher segments. Shortly Ford crawls into this space with the Focus. Honda’s refurbished Civic that’s drawing flak for not being a step ahead is another model awaited in India. Companies will not invest to bring in new models if there is less demand or no potential to that market category. For all those who have bought Verna, City, Vento, Optra and Linea in the coming years there are plenty of models to upgrade to. The brisk sales in the B+ and C Segment is another reason why there is buzz in the immediately higher floor. Besides mere presence these models are opportunities for companies to show what Europe or America buys as an everyday car. For many who have used such cars in overseas countries, returning to India won’t be a tough experience! Many companies are not able to sell their global models in India’s most wanted segments due to cost reasons. Toyota chose to develop and slip in a market-specific Etios and the same holds good for Honda and Renault. These cars are low-cost alternatives to world-class models that populate the developed markets. Here’s a chance for them to show how far they have come in terms of refinement, interior quality, driving performance and powertrain technology as there are lesser cost constraints in the C and D segments. On posting the first spyshot , readers said that the Avante’s style can alone dismantle the competition. Past experience has shown that its a combination of price (Corolla), design (Civic, Cruze), features (Octavia, Laura) and mileage (Corolla) that does the trick though the Fluidic Design is an added advantage for Avante. There are no details available on the powertrain but its a no-brainer that Hyundai has to bring a diesel variant perhaps a more powerful edition of the Verna’s 1.6-liter fits the bill.

Spied:- Hyundai Avante/Elantra in India

by Paul Joseph November 14, 2011 Featured

After  successful launch their small car Eon , Hyundai India is now planning to bring some thing really big. Hyundai Elantra/Avante has been spotted testing in India by  Team-BHP forum member. Hyundai  Avante made it’s International debut  in last year via Busan International Motor Show and currently available in markets like Korea, Middle East and various European market. Avante could be the most attractive product  in exterior department currently available in Hyundai’s portfolio. Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” styling theme makes it a true head turner in it’s segment. Avante comes with stylish interiors to differentiate itself from it’s competition. But Hyundai has a challenge to over come, i.e finding a suitable diesel engine and  proving it in  Avante’s body shell. Yeah, currently  Hyundai Elantra is available in petrol engine variant only. The 1.6ltr and 1.8 ltr gasoline engines are coupled to six speed manual or auto transmission. Hyundai has a  variety of diesel engines to choose for planting under new Elantra’s  hood. The engine which currently serving  Verna could be a possible candidate. Another option could be 2.0 ltr diesel motor present in Global market in various products. Hyundai Motors will be assembling  new Elantra in company’s plant in Chennai. Hyundai Elantra which was sold in  India but  failed miserably, thanks to boring styling and a heavy price tag. With the launch of new Elantra, Hyundai will have a capable candidate in their hand to take on proven products like Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and  VW Jetta. Hyundai Motor India has been in India for more than a decade now and company has successfully launched many products. Hyundai products are always had a sensible pricing strategy.  So we expect an attractive price tag for  Hyundai Elantra. Hyundai may preview new Elantra during upcoming  2012 New Delhi Auto Expo and the launch may happen before March 2012. Stay subscribed to Wheelosphere for more updates. Spied – Sassy Fluidic Hyundai Avante/Elantra spyshots flood in

by Paul Joseph November 14, 2011 Featured

Remember prior to the Fluidic Verna launch, there were so many spyshots of the test mules on the interweb. Let’s hope so is the fate of the new Avante. Yes, Hyundai is testing the Avante in India and you heard it here first. Now, our good friends at TeamBHP have spotted the same test mule doing its daily routine in Delhi. If you are like me who places aesthetic value over and above everything else, you are in for a treat. The Avante is drop dead gorgeous. Sure, the new Fluidic Verna is a looker but this is on a whole new level. Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy at its absolute best! Gorgeous is an understatement for the new Avante The Avante is Hyundai answer to the Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Laura and Honda Civic and by the looks of it – a might smashing one. Hyundai will HAVE to plonk a diesel engine in the Avante to make sure it sends jitters down the spine of the Cruze and the Laura. They could possibly use a more powerful version of their own 1.6 engine which does duty in the Verna. Even the interiors are futuristic The Avante will surely turn a few heads in the C sedan segment. At the same time, Hyundai is also testing the i45 in India which means another successful contender in the D segment. This Auto Expo is sure going to be a lot fun! Source:  TeamBHP

Exclusive – Hyundai Fluidic Avante/Elantra scooped in Delhi

by Paul Joseph November 11, 2011 Featured

Over the last four weeks or so, IndianAutosBlog.com has been relentless in hunting down cars that are yet to reach the market. Our readers have received nothing short of spine-tingling material with exclusive shots of the new Camry, Innova facelift, Captiva facelift also in video, Jaguar XF facelift, Ford Fiesta automatic transmission, Tata Sumo Gold, Tata Indica XL and many more. Continuing that habit of bringing exclusives, here’s an image of the latest Hyundai Avante/Elantra, registered in Delhi, snapped on the DLF golf course road in Gurgaon by our reader Pushpinder Sahi. This is the first image of the on-test Elantra on Indian soil on the internet. IndianAutosBlog.com readers have been updated very often on the Avante. It is Hyundai’s answer to the Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla and Skoda Laura. It’s slightly bigger than the Verna and uses the same design ideology. It also shares components with the Verna. When asked on the launch plan of the Verna, Elantra and i45 last year at the Santa Fe launch, Hyundai India boss Mr HW Park without being specific told IndianAutosBlog.com that they “will bring it one by one” to India. In the next couple of years we’re going to see many new launches in this space. Ford is reportedly planning to bring in the C-Platform Focus to India and Honda has to update the Civic sooner or later. Skoda’s next generation Laura is due to in 2013 and GM India is rumored to be working on improving the Cruze. The Avante badly needs a diesel engine to give it a fair chance in India. Hyundai could use a more powerful form of the Verna’s 1.6-liter or look at any other sub-two liter engine. Gas mileage is an aspect that cannot be ignored even in the C segment. The Avante needs a comfortable rear seat, a decent entertainment system and beige interiors to put a smile on the Indian customer. Need more evidence? Compare the C-Pillar bend and the windshield rake Hyundai’s in a different world altogether compared to the time when they unsuccessfully sold the previous generation Elantra. Since those forgettable days they’ve had blockbusters in the form of i20 and Verna. These have given them immense confidence to wade into less known waters. Hyundai will not stop with the C-Segment as the D-Segment i45 looks ready for an early 2012 release. Do you think the Fludic Elantra will kick sand into the eyes of the Cruze and Corolla?
