Shoeb R Kalania gets it dead right as the new Indica Vista gets spied

by Paul Joseph July 4, 2011 Featured

As Tata Aria and Tata Safari Merlin become the ‘talk of the town’ vehicles from the Tata Camp, we forget the humble Indica Vista which is the bread earner for the company. Unfortunately, the Vista has not managed to capture the fancy of the Indian consumer as Tata Motors would have hoped. As a result, we learnt from our sources and reading AutoX magazine that Tata Motors has started work on an Indica Vista facelift model. SRK envisioned the Indica Vista facelift on the first week of June with a Tata Manza ish front end with double barrel headlamps and a chrome grill. Little did we know that Tata Motors was also thinking on the same lines. Our good friends at OnCars have spotted a test mule of the Indica Vista facelift and thus have proved that IAB was right about it. The test mule, as SRK imagined, has a Manza front end bolted to the body of Indica Vista. The rear profile of the car remains more or less the same. It also features the same alloy wheels as the Manza. We expect the facelifted Vista to arrive during Diwali. This mild makeover is an effort to fend of the competition that will come from the big three hatchbacks (Toyota Liva, New Swift and Honda Brio). All three competitors will lock horns in the festive season of Diwali. In such a scenario, will the mildly face lifted Indica Vista have a fighting chance? [Source - OnCars.in via AutoX.in ]

General Motors delays Chevrolet Beat Launch

by Paul Joseph June 4, 2011 Featured

The American Multinational Automotive Corporation’s Indian subsidiary- General Motors India had announced the launch of Chevrolet Beat Diesel in June 2011. The release has been further delayed to July, 2011. It was earlier reported that General Motors India was going to launch its small car in diesel variant by June, 2011. The reason behind the delay was not disclosed but resources reported that it is due to the recent strike at its manufacturing facility. Yet another petrol price hike scheduled in the next couple of weeks will have General Motors India rolling out the new Chevrolet Beat Diesel in the first week of July, 2011. Chevrolet Beat diesel is expected to deliver a mileage of 26kmpl which is 1km more than Tata’s Indica Vista which is offering mileage of 25kmpl. Thus Chevrolet Beat Diesel is going to be India’s most fuel efficient hatchback car. However, there will be some competition after the king of small cars Tata Nano launches next year. According to sources, General Motors earlier had pumped in $230 million for the establishment of new diesel engine unit having a capacity of 1.6 lakh units per annum. That is not all; as GM will release six new car models by 2012 which is going to include cars of all segments.

Tata Motors plans Indica Vista facelift

by Paul Joseph May 31, 2011 Featured

BSMotoring has carried an interesting story talking about new models from Tata Motors during this financial year. An important model reported is the Indica Vista facelift as the company’ not been among the volumes in a segment that’s loaned a new face to Ford, Volkswagen and Nissan operating with one hatchback. Tata has an incredibly large number of variants on the Indica platform and the Vista has variants for economy as well as performance-seeking customers. Be it Indica or Indigo, the formula for Tata Motors has been to offer something for everyone. The Vista (the Indica prefix has diminished over the years) introduced in August 2008 has seen two fast-selling anniversary edition models, one not-very-fast-selling 90hp variant and four engines in all (SAFIRE90, SAFIRE65, Quadrajet and TDi for BS3 cities). In 2012, Tata could give it a much-needed cosmetic overhaul as a number of cars like Etios Liva, Brio, Renault hatchback are going to join the ranks. click through to read more

How a Tata Indigo Manza/Indica Vista AT would look

by Paul Joseph April 21, 2011 Featured

Here’s an interior snap of the Tata Vista EV . Since this is an EV, it is understandably missing a conventional gearbox. The image provides us an idea of how the gear selector will look like. There’s no concrete proof of Tata Motors working on a AT for the Vista or Manza. The Manza has done well for Tata in wiping away the image of the Indigo being a cab operator’ everyday tool. Well-finished interiors, generous amount of rear seat space and good levels of powertrain refinement has won it accolades. Tata Motors should next explore AT avenue for its Nano, Indica and Indigo models. Tata also needs to work on a bigger sedan, perhaps stretching the Manza’ platform and giving it a more powerful diesel engine. The AT will then come in handy as it will brush shoulders with the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

First 25 Tata Vista EVs hit the road

by Paul Joseph April 12, 2011 Featured

The first 25 Tata Vista EV have been handed over to the owners as part of the final car evaluation before the UK launch. These specific owners will provide feedback to Tata Motors on a regular basis for a year. These cars are part-funded by the Coventry and Birmingham Low Emissions Demonstrators (CABLED). The government has also established a public charging point network across the region. This trial will reveal the adaptability of the electric cars in UK. The Vista EV will be made available to the general public by this summer. The vehicle will be assembled at the new factory in Coventry using kits imported from India. Source – TheChargingPoint.com

Chevrolet Beat diesel to carry XSDE nametag

by Paul Joseph April 8, 2011 Featured

OnCars.in is reporting that the Chevrolet Beat diesel , expected here in June, will carry the XSDE nametag which stands for ‘Xtra Smart Diesel Engine.’ The word “Smart” has appeared twice before on the Beat’s marketing strategy. During the launch last year, three keywords GM described the Beat with were tough, sexy and smart. Two months ago, the Beat received a modified petrol engine capable of handling LPG fuel under the name “Smartech.” We already know that the 1.0-litre three cylinder motor is a derivative of the  4-cylinder Multi-jet engine featured on the Indica Vista, Swift and Linea. The engine will generate 57PS of power and 145Nm of torque and its Powertrain development facility in Bangalore has played an important hand in its development. The locally-manufactured diesel engine, strapped to the Beat, will return close to 24kmpl, sources have told IAB. Source – OnCars.in
