Maruti Suzuki to launch many diesel power cars but not sure about the establishment of Gujarat plant

by Paul Joseph February 6, 2012 Featured

An announced has already made by Maruti Suzuki Company that they are going to launch new diesel powered cars and simultaneously they are not sure about the establishment of the new plant in Gujarat. Many new vehicles have been launched and will be launched by the company hence it is essential for the company to expand their manufacturing plant. Hence, the decision is taken by the company to establish a new plant in Gujarat.  Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said: “Our market share has slipped to 40 per cent in 2011. This was due to slowdown in the industry and lower sales of petrol models compared to diesel car production.” Demand for diesel-powered cars has increased exponentially over the last few months. Maruti Suzuki wants to capitalize on this demand, and launch new diesel powered cars for car buyers in India. The decision of expanding the manufacturing plant in Gujarat is taken by the company when the Indian auto industry was highly on the growing rate of 18 percent. However, things have been changed today. Many things such as high interest rates and high fuel costs have greatly affected the purchasers of car in India leading to decline in the growth of car market in India.  A new deal has been fixed by Maruti Suzuki company with Fiat Auto India, which tells the latter will deliver almost 100,000 diesel engines yearly as compared to the former that will be increased in future to nearly 300,000 units yearly till the year 2014. Maruti Company has also planned to manufacture their own diesel engines for their newly launched cars. Presently, Fiat powered 1.3L diesel engine is provided by different models of the Maruti Company such as Swift DZire, Ritz, SX4 and Maruti Suzuki Swift.  At the launch of their new mid-sized sedan, Swift DZire, Mr I V Rao, Managing Executive Officer, Maruti Suzuki India, said: “We do have plans to go to Gujarat and preliminary talks have been already held with the state government. However, nothing has been decided on when and how much land will be acquired there. The matter has not been placed before the board for approval yet.”

Maruti Suzuki launches the 2012 version of the DZire

by Paul Joseph February 5, 2012 Featured

The Dzire has accomplished 3.3 lakh units since its inception and has done a fairly good job for a car in its segment. And now without any delay, Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2012 version of the car and it seems to be more competitive than ever before. The new Swift has been restructured to a sub 4 metres length and the upside to this is the saving in parking space and usability in the urban arena. The new Swift will also be available with an automatic gearbox that is mated to 1.2 liter petrol variant that puts out 87PS @ 6000 rpm against the 85PS of it predecessor. However there are no changes in the Diesel variant  and delivers the same 75PS @ 4000 rpm from its 1.3 liter D13A powerhouse. The cabin is loaded with beige, chrome and wood to the right proportions and lends that upmarket feel. The two tone dashboard, the steering mounted climate and audio controls add to the overall experience of the Dzire. On the safety front the Dzire has front dual SRS airbags, ELR seatbelts, ABS, Brake Assist, EBD and also an Engine Drag Control System. The best part is that the new Dzire weighs exactly as much as the Swift hatch and it means that you get the power to weight ratio as much as the hatch plus a boot. For a car priced between 4.79 to 6.54 lakhs for the petrol variant and Rs. 5.80 to 7.09 lakhs (All prices Ex-showroom Delhi)  for the diesel, the new Dzire will have the Verito and Indigo CS worried.   Maruti Suzuki launches the 2012 version of the DZire is originally published on : Wheelosphere – Indian Car and Bike Blog

Maruti announces the second-generation Swift Dzire at a starting price of Rs 4.79lakh in petrol and diesel variants. This will be the new sub-four-meter Dzire which will be offered as four-speed automatic petrol variant. In the diesel variants, the base variant is for Rs 5.80 lakh and the top-end for Rs 7.09 lakh. The new Dzire measures 3995 mm and it is 165mm shorter than the existing saloon. The K series will benefit from the variable valve Timing. The new Dzire also looks different in that the front gets a slatted grille and the bumper features a wider air dam and larger enclosures for the fog lights. The cabin design looks much like the Swift but the beige plastics and lower portion of the dashboard and door pads with the light seat fabrics give the ambience a better look. For buyers looking at performance, the Maruti claims that the petrol variant can hit 0-100 kph in 12.3 sec, while the diesel variant will take 14.8 sec for top speed of 160kph. It will compete with Tata Indigo eCS, Toyota Etios and the Mahindra Verito. By: Amrith K. A.

Maruti Suzuki updates the A-star in an effort to revive dwindling sales

by Paul Joseph January 26, 2012 Featured

Moving on from Maruti Suzuki’s bestselling car in the world to a sales dud that is not doing so well. The A-Star (Alto-star) replaced the Alto everywhere in the world except India. The A-Star, since its launch, has always been under the shadow of sibling Alto and rival i10. Maruti Suzuki has exported many times the volume it has sold in the Indian market. Since Maruti has two vehicles at similar price points (A-Star and Wagon R), the A-Star always played second filled to its tall boy partner. To induce the A-Star a bit of zing, Maruti has provided some minor updates for 2012. The new A-Star features: Rear spoiler New set of alloy wheels Two new colours – Caffeine Brown and Glistening Grey New beige tone to the interiors 50:50 rear split seat New front head restraints ABS and airbags (optional) No changes have been made to the technical specifications. The new A-Star is launched in the price bracket 3.67 to Rs 4.47 lakh (ex-Delhi). Each variant is about Rs 1,000 more than it previously was. ABS and airbags will set you back by Rs 18,000. Maruti Suzuki Alto outsells every other car in the WORLD, again!

by Paul Joseph January 26, 2012 Featured

For a car that sells every 2 minutes , the Maruti Suzuki Alto is no amateur when it comes to breaking sales records. It has been the bestselling car in India since the Maruti 800 forfeited that title after its parents declared it was too old for it to continue competing everywhere. Our liking for the Alto even made it the best selling hatchback of the world in 2010 . And it has done it again! The Maruti Suzuki Alto outpaced the likes of VW Gol and Fiat Uno to become the bestselling car of the world for the second time in a row. The Alto sold over 300,000 units followed by VW Gol in Brazil at 293,454 units, Fiat Uno (Brazil) at 273,537 units and VW Golf in Germany at 258,059 units. Another gem from Suzuki’s stable – Wagon R completed the top 5 best selling cars of the world. However, there is a twist in this story. Although Alto bagged the best selling title, its growth rate is losing steam as time progresses. The fastest growth rate was demonstrated by Fiat Uno in Brazil. There could be various factors that have taken a toll of the growth rate such as market slowdown, rising petrol prices, launch of the Hyundai EON, etc. With the entry of new players in the small car segment such as Nissan and Fiat, the situation is not going to improve for Maruti. Do you think the Alto can sustain the growth for the third time in the row this year? [Source: HindustanTimes.com ]

Maruti A-Star gets minor upgrades

by Paul Joseph January 26, 2012 Featured

Maruti A-Star finally got a much needed  update in this new year. Though the changes are  minimal, they are  worth having a look. Maruti has added new beige tone to interiors. The lower half of the dashboard and seats are now looking new. New A-Star’s rear bunch is now replaced with 50:50 split seats. This will increase the usability of the car. The front head rests are also redesigned in the new A-Star. A  new  variant (ZXi) has been added and  it  will run on a set of factory fitted alloy wheels. New A-Star will also get a rear spoiler which enhances the sporty look. The top end variant will get air bags and ABS as optional features. The new Maruti A-Star will be available in two more shades – Pearl Metallic Brown and Glistening Grey. Company is currently offering five shades, Bright Red, Pearl Arctic White, Paradise Blue, Silky Silver and Midnight Black. “The smart modifications in the spiced-up A-star are in line with customer feedback and seek to enhance the overall look, feel and comfort of the buyers,” said  Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing) – Maruti Suzuki India (MSI). The ex show room (New Delhi) prices of new Maruti A-Star are LXi       – Rs. 366,618 VXi       – Rs.397,268 VXi AT  – Rs. 447,175 ZXi       -  Rs.422,250 ZXi       -  Rs.440,503 (With Air Bags and ABS) Maruti A-Star was debuted in India in 2009. In the initial phase, A-Star fared moderately well but later sales took a nose dive. But Maruti Suzuki had decent demand in European markets where A-Star is sold with Suzuki Alto label. Also Maruti Suzuki supplies  A-Star to Nissan for overseas market. The latter sells A-Star as Nissan Pixo there. Back in home, Maruti A-Star failed to impress prospective family car buyers. The major reasons could be lack of luggage space and cramped rear row seats. But A-Star Automatic variant gained popularity among city dwellers as there are  not much options available in the segment. Let us see how the A-Star is going to perform in our market.
