Nissan India exploring a low cost compact car

by Paul Joseph September 27, 2011 Featured

Nissan India is actively exploring the opportunities in our  market to bring an all new small car. This new small car will sit below company’s premium hatch Micra. “There is a great opportunity in the small car market (of India) for Nissan. We are doing a feasibility study to assess the possible demand (of a car below the Micra),” said Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director of Nissan Motor India  to The Telegraph . Nissan Micra debuted in India last year and was expected to emerge as a volume player. But Nissan Micra has been struggling in our market even though it’s diesel option is also available. As Micra has been a huge hit on overseas markets and  Nissan is exporting Micra from here, company is  not really concerned about this scenario. The new small car is expected to price between Rs.2.5lakh and Rs.3.5 lakh. Naturally  Chevrolet Spark, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Alto and yet to be launched Hyundai Eon   are expected to be it’s prime competitors. Nissan India recently launched their entry level sedan Sunny in India. Sunny is expected to garner some quick numbers which it’s smaller sibling Micra failed to achieve. Nissan India’s Chennai plant will act as  production base for this new car. We need to wait another two to three years to see a production ready prototype of this new sub-compact from Nissan family. So stay glued, we will update you with more news. Note:- The above image is for representational purpose only. Nissan India could soon pick up a minority stake in Hover

by Paul Joseph September 24, 2011 Featured

Recent reports state that Nissan India will take hold of a minority stake in Hover Automotive Ltd. Hover is in control of the marketing, sales, dealer development and after sales activity for Nissan. Once the joint venture is finalized, Nissan will become Hover’s 4th partner along with Moez Mangalji – serving as the Chairman of Hover from the Westmont Group , G Mohan Singh – earlier one of Honda’s largest dealers and Kevin Whalen – one of the founding members of Group One Automotive. A top official from Hover has announced that once the alliance is formed instead of selling vehicles on a commission basis, Hover will be on task with all finished products in Nissan’s inventory by purchasing it from the manufacturers and distributing them to the entire dealer network which is scheduled to see a rapid growth from 45 to 100 by the end of 2012. Its interesting to note that India is among the few places in the world where Nissan works with a joint venture as such. Hover which has already appointed 85 dealers for Nissan, seeks to attain 85%  of the automotive market in India by 2013. To meet Nissan standards, each dealer is expected to invest an amount 6 – 10 crore. This Joint Venture suggests that Nissan now being a stake holder, will have more control over the dealerships, its activities and so on. [Source: mydigitalfc.com ]

Nissan Sunny interiors/walk around [Video]

by Paul Joseph August 9, 2011 Featured

IndianAutosBlog.com covered the Nissan Sunny name announcement which is exactly when we shot this video. Nissan did not allow journalists to shoot interior pictures and kept the door locked throughout the event. But fret not as very soon, Nissan will reveal the Sunny sedan at a media program. Nissan will not strap the Indian Sunny with the 1.6 petrol. They instead are introducing a new 1.5 paired to an MT. The petrol variants will precede the diesel. The latter’s under-hood elements come off the Micra and is also found under the hood of the Fluence. At least two variants of the Nissan Sunny (XL and XV) will have AC vents for rear passengers. Can the Nissan Sunny hack into the domain under the regime of the Honda City, VW Vento and Hyundai Verna?
