Official: Toyota Liva bows out on 27th June

by Paul Joseph June 21, 2011 Featured

The details are out of the first contender of the three major hatchbacks (Liva, Brio & Swift) that are expected to hit Indian Auto Market in 2011. It is official – The Toyota Liva will grace us all on the 27 th of this month in Delhi. The much anticipated Liva will be the first of the new challengers that are expected to create a stir in the Indian hatchback market. Toyota Liva Hatchback The Liva is a hatchback version of Toyota’s entry level sedan – The Etios. Powered by a 1.2 Litre MPFI Petrol Engine, the Liva is expected to put out a generous 80 BHP. The Liva weighs only 890 kgs and will come with a 5 Speed Manual Transmission that will provide superb fuel efficiency and decent performance. The same interior that one can see on the Etios is expected to carry over to the Liva. So expect a few tacky bits of plastics here and there. We have already seen a production ready model of the Liva at the Etios launch and we were mighty impressed by the spaciousness of the car. Most rumors are predicting a 4 lakhs starting price for the Liva which means it will be a major worry for i10, WagonR, Polo and the new Swift. Stay tuned as we get you live updates from the launch

New BMW X3 will be launched on June 23?

by Paul Joseph May 14, 2011 Featured

Indian Autos Blog is told that the new BMW X3 (F25) will be launched on June 23. We’re not entirely sure of this information, but a couple of months ago, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar of the Car and Bike Show wrote on his Facebook page wall about BMW planning a June launch for the Q5 competitor. A source tells Indian Autos Blog that a 2.0-liter diesel engine is planned for the Indian market. The vehicle might not come with a petrol engine in the initial stages. If a petrol engine is offered, it would also be a turbocharged 2.0-liter (codename – N20) that manages a fuel economy of 12kmpl in our conditions. The source tells us that a slightly under-equipped 2.0-liter diesel variant will be priced well under the Audi Q5 2.0 TDI , its prime target. All X3 variants in India will be fitted with xDrive and the BMW X1 , as we’ve said before, will remain the sole 2WD crossover in the BMW lineup. Pilot production of the new X3 began just days ago and series production will start in the next few days.

2013 Mitsubishi Outlander to go Hybrid?

by Paul Joseph May 12, 2011 Featured

The Outlander has not been able to turn any fortunes for Mitsubishi India. Its high price, less seating capacity and Mitsubishi’s lack of dealerships are few of its falling points to start with. Mitsubishi’s lack of interest coupled with almost nil marketing activities means the Outlander barely touches three digit sales figure every month. But come 2013, the Outlander is expected to get a facelift along with a hybrid engine. The new Outlander will be based on PX-MiEV concept revealed in 2009. The expected dimensions are to be 4650 mm x 1800 mm x 1670 mm. If you were thinking of buying an Outlander but wanted an extra row of seating in the rear, then this SUV is out of your consideration forever because the 2013 Outlander will ditch its rear seats for the hybrid battery back across all markets. Note, there is a 7 seat version of our current Outlander in the UK but Mitsubishi brought only the 5 seater one to India. Coming back to the hybrid part, the power be delivered by 4 cylinder DOHC petrol engine with 114 hp/125 Nm. This engine will be mated to two electric permanent-magnet synchronous motor that producing 80 hp. The company claims that the new SUV can travel up to 30 miles or 48 km on electricity alone. The car will in showroom with Pajero Hybrid in the same year. Source – Wheelosphere.org

Updates on new Ford Fiesta and Fiesta Classic

by Paul Joseph April 5, 2011 Featured

Sources have told Indian Autos Blog that there is no massive price slash on the existing Fiesta. The price cut will be to the tune of 40k rupees and the Classic model will come with no serious equipment (which even means no stereo and low cost seats). The price difference is a result of a combination of less equipment and marginally higher levels of localization. Since the Figo and Fiesta share the same platform, more local vendors could be involved with the Fiesta Classic program. The Fiesta Classic will be a good bet for taxicab operators. As for the new Fiesta , sources tell IAB that the company’ ready with the 1.6-liter petrol engine from the existing Fiesta fitted with variable valve timing. The turbocharged diesel engine is however a brand new motor producing 90bhp. The petrol engine will produce roughly 118bhp and is a blast to drive. Unlike initial reports, there could be no automatic transmission offered at least initially on the new Fiesta.

For Verna, Hyundai will pull the ‘The Most Powerful’ Card

by Paul Joseph March 28, 2011 Featured

WOW! As more and more information is disclosed about the new Hyundai Verna, we are getting really excited about the launch. Hyundai has now released the engine specs of the new Verna which has appeared on publications that were present at the media drive held recently in Dubai. The car will be offered in 4 different engine options. They are: • 1.4 Litre MPFI Petrol Engine with 106 Bhp-135 Nm of torque • 1.6 Litre Gamma MPFI Petrol Engine with max power of 122 Bhp-156 nm of torque • 1.4 Litre CRDI Diesel Engine with max power of 90 Bhp-224 Nm of torque • 1.6 Litre CRDI Diesel Engine with max power of 126 BHP and max torque of 265 Nm This means that if the Hyundai Verna is launched in the price bracket of 9-11 lakhs (as speculated), it will be the ‘Most Powerful’ Sedan in its segment. This ‘Most Powerful’ card was earlier pulled by the Chevy Cruze and it successfully dethroned the Honda Civic in that segment. Booked a Honda City did you? Will Hyundai be able to accomplish what Chevy India did?
