Vokswagen’s Polo is Europe’s second best seller; Polo Vivo hits the jackpot in South Africa

The Volkswagen Polo is making headline news around the world as it finished 2011 as the second best selling vehicle in Europe. You must have already guessed the best selling vehicle, its without doubt the Polo’s elder sibling Golf that India unfortunately doesn’t have in its lineup. The Golf has yet again proved that practicality tied together with fun can lead to impressive results. VW India has been spied testing the Golf in Pune but once told IAB that for its price, Indian customer is looking for a sedan. Having won the highly prestigious World Car of the Year award, the 6th generation Polo notched up impressive numbers in 2011. 356,490 units of the new Polo were delivered to customers in Europe. Throughout 2011, the Polo was a constant feature in the ten best selling cars, categorized monthly, in Britain. Here in India the Polo and Vento proved to be a deadly combination with the duo notching up 74k+ units. Volkswagen has more reasons to rejoice as a similar kind of event was observed in South Africa with the Polo Vivo (last generation model) which ended December as Volkswagen South Africa’s most exported model and the country’s top-selling passenger car of the month. The Vivo took second place in November and selling it has been a very rewarding experience for VW South Africa since start of sales in March 2010.

Volkswagen showcases Polo with chrome embellishments at Auto Expo [update]

These vehicles reach the market in 2011 in a phased manner. The XL1, though perfect for the Indian customer with 100kmpl mileage, is not production-ready and even when it is, it will so be the Bugatti Veyron of fuel efficient cars, both on performance and price fronts. The seemingly stock-looking Volkswagen Polo hidden away in a corner is more than what meets the eye. The front and interior are exactly that of the Highline trim. Back at the rear, the story is not the same. A chrome strip and a chrome tipped exhaust pipe, which otherwise is hidden away under the car, are notable differences. Notice how the exhaust pipe cuts through the skirt. The display model sports a roof spoiler that’s also not offered in India. We haven’t heard from Volkswagen until now on the identity of this car. Volkswagen lends attractive daytime running LED lights to Austrian Polo

Last month Volkswagen supplemented a new variant to the Austrian arsenal using the Polo carline dubbed ‘Polo Sky’ Featuring sunroof (the reason behind the variant name), automatic climate control, 15-inch alloy wheels, rain sensor, gray center console finish and ‘Livon’ upholstery, the Polo Sky receives attractive daytime running LED lights to its headlight assembly. The Austrian market is a fortunate one as it gets the highly sought-after 1.2 TSI petrol engine making 104bhp and 1.6-liter TDI (from Vento) making 105bhp. The Indian market rates fuel efficiency higher over performance and Volkswagen has not brought down the high-end variants for the same reason. The Polo is also not offered with 3-doors as rear seat accessibility is important for chauffeur-driven owners and rear seat travelers who are plenty even in lower segments. The great and wonderful response has been got to Volkswagen India’s limited edition IPL Vento and hence the car maker has now planned to launch Breeze editions of the Polo and Vento for speed up the sales units of these well-known cars. Now let us know more about Breeze editions of both Polo and Vento. The Breeze Weekend festival will be hosted by Volkswagen India on 1-th September 2011 through the country in all its 77 dealerships for honoring the launching of such limited editions of models which have been called as action models. Such action models will surely help in contributing to the sales of Breeze edition like Vento and Polo according to Volkswagen. It is a fact that limited editions sedans sell out very fast. What these newly launched cars make worth that there is not of extra cost over those normal cars. Upgraded Volkswagen Polo and new Touareg spotted in Pune

Our good friends over at Anything-On-Wheels have published spy shots of two forthcoming Volkswagen products from the streets of Pune. The first image is of the Volkswagen Polo upgrade with steering-mounted audio controls. Could we see Volkswagen upgrade equipment on all variants? Will Volkswagen provide a four-cylinder diesel engine displacing under 1,500cc along with these upgrades? A four cylinder engine promises to deliver superior performance compared to a naturally imbalanced three-cylinder. They can reserve the 1.2 TDI for the base model and use it across the Up range next year. The second vehicle spotted is the new Touareg. The Volkswagen Touareg isn’t exactly a saucy SUV as the role of a family SUV is played by other vehicles in the VW family like the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne. The brand strength of Volkswagen is only a fraction of a Porsche or an Audi. We hear that BlueMotion technology will make it to the upgraded Touareg, but a hybrid variant, due to the high price of the battery pack, may not be sold in India.
